Communications Disruption

In our Thursday night small group we have decided that we will discuss in further detail after having studied for four days PT's Sunday morning sermon (at least until we get our books in, thanks Mom:)). I think this is a great idea. Recently he has been doing a series on marriage, and this Sunday was about communication. I unfortunately (due to pregnancy issues: restlessnes, not being able to breathe, general anxiousness) was unable to sit through the entire sermon. I really wish that I had though because they talked (on Thursday night) about some of the things that I had missed (on Sunday morning) and it was really good stuff. It was really great how he outlined the different depths of conversation involving: a. safe- The cliche conversation ("Good morning. How are you doing? I'm fine, thank you."), b. safe- The stating of facts and schedules ("I have to pick up the kids today."), c. opening up a little- The sharing of opinions, d. gettin' tougher- The sharing of feeling concerning said opinions, and e. where people can really get hurt- Complete openess and vulnerability. Unfortunately, I didn't get to hear much else. I thought that was a really great breakdown of how we really do try to converse with people. And most often we don't want to go outside of point a or b. That is one of the things I really love about this group, and about my Sunday night group. We are completely open on all issues. It is so great to have this kind of relationship with people. So as far as my title for the post, it really doesn't have anything to do with communications disruptions in any form, it is just that I like Star Wars and that is something that is said... in there... somewhere.

Lords of the Trailer Park

This is a review that I found on Amazon/Toys-R-Us for the Harley Davidson Lights and Sounds Trike. This has to be some of the best writing I have read in ages.

Lords of the Trailer Park, October 1, 2005

They are lords of the trailerpark these youngsters on their Harley Davidson trikes. Rolling down gravel driveways, spitting their disgust at the conventions of lower middle class culture, the wind in their mullets, these are the Children of the Horn. Honking. They cannot be stopped now. There are no cinderblocks or plywood sheeting strong enough to constrain their youthful nihilism. The only rule of Trike Club is there are no rules.
In each trailerpark there is one adult, one father or stepfather or mom's boyfriend, who keeps these Harley Davidson trikes running. He is the linchpin of this hellish gang of preschoolers with hate in their eyes and violence in their lunchpails.
Unfortunately, these trikes are true facsimiles of Harley Davidson, they break down constantly and use technology first developed in the 1930s. But the sound cannot be duplicated. The sound of freedom, the sound of America, the sound of the singlewides.
Is your child man enough for one of these? Ask yourself that question. If he is, then by all means get him one. If you get him one learn to repair it. Keep him on the road.

Pure genius.

After many many hours my newest nephew is finally in the world with us. He is one of the most breath taking sights I have ever seen. The meer thought of how gorgeous he is makes me get all teary. My wonderful sister was checked into the hospital on Wednesday at about six, and CBS got here through cesarean section on Friday at twelve forty three, about forty two hours later. My poor sister, you may say, yes I agree. I hate that she has had such a traumatic labor and delivery. I also have to say, my poor brother-in-law, PBS. He has been there almost the entire time, every feeling flashing across his face showing the concern he felt for his wife and first born. It has been such a long experience for both of them. They are all doing well now, just very tired. I thought that my labor experience was somewhat traumatic, it is nothing compared to what they have been through.

MY SISTER IS IN LABOR!!!

MY SISTER IS IN LABOR!!! Also, anyone attempting to email me may get bounce back notices while our email host is migrating all of our stuff (as Rc so eloquently put it). But you can try emailing again tomorrow, it may be back up by then. Also, MY SISTER IS IN LABOR!!!! So that probably means I won't be at small group tonight.

I am so happy to finally be non-sick. Like I even feel normal again! How wonderful simply feeling like yourself again is!
The kiddo has really started testing boundaries here lately. He used to go right to it with any orders that we gave him, you know the typical ones go in the kitchen and get me some pie, go put air in the tires, play Rachmaninov on your recorder for me, boy. He was so good at doing everything. Now it is like "Please come here" and off he jets to another room. Yeah, he is two alright. I am really pleased to see how he treats other kids though. Like in the nursery on Sunday, one of the workers told me that she was changing another child's diaper and they were being kind of fussy, so my boy goes right over and pats them on the arm as if to say "Don't worry, it'll be alright". Isn't that just the sweetest thing? And last Friday, I was helping out my sister because she had to have a shot in her back so that hopefully it won't hurt so bad and so with her not being able to help her kids out all that much I was just sort of there to help out (as is previously stated by captain repeat myself three times). Anyhow, whenever her youngest acted fussy my son would go and find a pacifier and try to put it in his mouth. Of course, he kept putting it in in the wrong direction and he also kept trying to pull it back out once he had stuck it in as if to see how this thing really works, it was just so cute and helpful. I really hope he continues being this helpful with other kids, you know, like until this little girl inside of me is able to do what he can do. So, since he is being this helpful I suppose I really shouldn't complain about him not listening to me.
